WALTHAMSTOW SCHOOLS
Client: LB Waltham Forest/ Bouygues
Location: London. UK
We secured planning consent for the redevelopment of three schools in Walthamstow, including listed building consent for the development of Walthamstow Girls School, under the UK government's Building Schools for the Future (BSF) investment program for secondary school buildings in England.
Kelmscott School underwent an £11.2 million refurbishment, serving approximately 900 pupils aged 11–16. This project upgraded the facilities to meet modern educational standards and improve the learning environment.
Frederick Bremer School, an 11-16 community school, was constructed on the 9.5-acre former Hawker Siddeley site. This state-of-the-art £20 million building was designed with an engineering theme, providing students with cutting-edge facilities to support their education.
Walthamstow Girls School was developed through an £18.5 million, 9,500m² project that involved refurbishing the existing Grade II listed building and adding a new extension. The design took advantage of the sloping site to create additional accommodation on a lower ground floor, while being sensitive to the conservation area. The build achieved a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating, a globally recognized sustainability assessment, and won a 2011 BCSE (Business Council for Sustainable Energy) Design Award.
